Introduction

Tricanna Industries Inc., located in Mission, BC, is a premier cannabis processing company that has been in operation for nearly five years. As a one-stop shop for cannabis processing needs, Tricanna serves cultivators, processors, and brands by offering customized, cost-effective solutions to help achieve packaging and distribution goals. The company’s customer-focused approach and industry-specific expertise set it apart in the cannabis sector. With over 150 partners and 1,000 products, Tricanna has a significant responsibility to maintain accurate records for their complex processing operations to stay compliant.

The Challenge

Tricanna Industries previously utilized a high-end ERP system that, while powerful, was cumbersome and required a steep learning curve to operate effectively. The complexity of the system led to inefficiencies, particularly in inventory management and production processes. Seeking a more user-friendly and industry-tailored solution, Tricanna decided to partner with Evora. The holistic approach of Evora, combined with its user-friendly interface and comprehensive support, offered a significant improvement in operational efficiency, doubling the company’s inventory and production efficiencies.

The Solution: Evora Software

The transition to Evora was carefully managed, with the software’s team providing continuous support throughout the configuration and implementation process. Although the switch from the previous ERP system was labor-intensive, Evora’s hands-on training and support ensured that the system was effectively integrated into Tricanna’s operations. The training, conducted primarily through video calls, was effective but time-consuming. To streamline the onboarding process for future employees, the recommendation was made to develop more manuals and short training videos.

Within 2 to 3 months, Tricanna’s team became comfortable with data entry in Evora. However, challenges remained in obtaining accurate month-end inventory reports due to issues with how inventory movements were recorded. Despite this, the overall transition was successful, with significant improvements in system efficiency and ease of use.

Support and Service

The support provided by Evora has been a cornerstone of its success at Tricanna. The dedicated support team, particularly Zaki, has been consistently available through various communication channels, ensuring that any issues are addressed promptly. The ticket submission system is another valuable feature, typically resolving minor issues within 24 hours.

While no specific major issues were noted, Tricanna has found that most concerns are resolved in a timely manner, reflecting the responsiveness and commitment of the Evora support team.

Processing & Packaging Improvements

Evora has significantly improved Tricanna’s ability to track processing activities, leading to enhanced operational efficiency. The system’s ease of setting up Bills of Materials (BOMs) and Routes has streamlined the creation of new packaging runs. This has made traceability of inputs and outputs remarkably easier compared to previous manual systems, reducing the time spent on paperwork and improving overall productivity.

The use of BOMs and Routes has optimized workflow for future forecasting and job planning, allowing for more accurate and efficient production planning.

Inventory Tracking and Quality Assurance

Evora has simplified the tracking of inbound and outbound production items, providing real-time visibility into stock quantities and reservations. This real-time tracking capability has improved decision-making processes and enhanced supply chain management at Tricanna.

The integrated Quality Management System (QMS) within Evora has also been instrumental in streamlining quality assurance processes. The ability to link produced items to any Quality Events has significantly improved traceability and management of deviations, ensuring that Tricanna can maintain high standards of product quality and compliance.

Reporting and Compliance

Monthly reporting within the Evora system, particularly for CTLS and CRA, initially presented challenges, especially with the calculation of excise duty. However, the support team has been proactive in addressing these issues, and ongoing improvements continue to enhance the reporting process. Despite the challenges, any issues with mapping on these reports are quickly resolved by the Evora team, ensuring that Tricanna remains compliant with regulatory requirements.

Future Initiatives

Looking forward, Tricanna plans to expand its operations by adding cultivation to its group of companies. Evora will continue to play a crucial role in managing inventory and supporting this expansion, reinforcing the strong partnership between Tricanna and Evora.
